The media just loves to scare people…
The report, released Wednesday, offered proposals for how to respond to any pandemic outbreak, including the possibility of bird flu sweeping across the nation.
It’s based on a worst-case scenario in which flu kills 2 million people, infects 50 million and puts 40 percent of workers out of commission.
Don’t buy into it.

I think it is just funny and perhaps a conspiracy that every year there is a new pandemic that could kill millions….remember Ebola, Anthrax, SARS, West Nile, now this….I am still going to eat Chicken, open my mail, play outside and get bit by mosquitoes…
These scare tactics are getting silly. Next week ABC is running a movie about the whole thing….it is a movie!!!!…but you know people are going to think it is real…good night!

Michael Moore’s Bowling For Columbine, while probably slanted in its own right, does a good job of showing how media, and culture in general, is entirely fear-based. And we of course know who is behind fear: the devil.

It is a bit of tragic comedy to hear people talk of the bird flu pandemic. You can pretty much tell who watches too much TV just by how much they talk about it. I’m begining to think that Freakonomics should be required reading; they spend time dealing with risk factors and why some issues (bird flue, handgun deaths) get over exposure even they are extremely low risk, while others (swimming pools, obesity) get little to no exposure despite having extremely high death rates.

I saw the trailer for ABC’s bird flu movie airing Tuesday while watching the Piston’s schelacking of the Cavs… I think tragic comedy is the perfect phrase for this whole mess.
